10 Questions with Gerald Reynolds 1. Would you give us a brief bio about yourself, your group and/or investigator status? I am a native Southern Californian. I spent the first 13 years of my life in West Long Beach California before my family moved to Carson California where I went to high school. I was a Marine Pipe Fitter mechanic for ten years before eventually changing my vocation and for the last 20 years my job has been in inside sales. Over my lifetime my interest have varied from paleontology, to Ufology, sports, journalism and of course paranormal investigations. My son is a Sergeant in the United States Army and has done a tour of duty in Iraq as a member of the 101st Airborne and is now stationed here in California where I get to see more of him and my daughter in law and my grand daughters. My daughter is still in school and she is a great kid with a big heart and she's a pretty good artist if I say so myself. My wife is my best friend and she provides a great home for me and the children. 2. Have you investigated the Queen Mary before and if yes, could you tell us when? Yes, the Queen Mary has been my primary source of most of the paranormal investigations I have been involved with. Since I am close by, I find excuses to be there on board the Queen Mary very often. Pat Wheelock is a great friend. He and I hit it off very well and he has allowed me to assist him in his weekly investigation tours on the Queen Mary. 3. What are your thoughts of her? The Queen Mary is a American Icon. She should be admired and revered as much as the Lincoln memorial, or the Washington monument, or the Heroes of Iwo Jima. The Queen Mary transported thousands of American troops to England during World War II. She was hated by the Nazis and Hitler who put a bounty on her for any U-boat captain that could sink her. They never could. She was too fast for all of them. After the war was over she made 13 transatlantic voyages in 1946 bringing over thousands of War brides and their children to the United States and Canada. When her days of being a hotel are done they should find spot for her right next to the Smithsonian and the other monuments in Washington DC. She's a huge part of American history during the years of World War II. 4. Can you tell us what is the most compelling evidence you have obtained from her? No doubt in my mind, the bobby pin EVP is the most compelling. We were very fortunate to have three of us there and all three were recording as this incident took place. My only regret is we did not have a video camera recording the event as well. The second most compelling may be the photo my daughter took (see below) in the Promenade Café during the weekend of Ghost Fest III. 5. Where would you consider to be the most active area on the Queen Mary? There are many parts of the ship you can investigate and record EVP and get interesting photographs. My first EVP was in the Isolation Room which is essentially a hospital ward aboard ship or you might call it the ship's infirmary. My first recorded track ever on that ship was in there and I had multiple hits. The second I turned on my recorder, before I even spoke, I recorded a huge EVP. The engine room is very active and in the last few months I have recorded several EVP there. Currently, this being February, I have done focused EVP work in the area they store the old ships furniture about three decks above the forward cargo hold. I personally believe any where on the Queen Mary and any time of day you have a great chance of recording a EVP. 6. Are there any personal experiences you alone have experienced there and would you share them with us? Just last week as I previously stated, I was doing a EVP session in the area the old furniture is stored. It was one of the few times I have actually heard with my own ears a disembodied voice. To hear essentially a voice come from nowhere in response to your provoking or prodding is a intense feeling. Scary? I suppose it could be but I found it exciting. A few weeks ago down in the forward cargo hold, I had a similar experience. 7. From your experiences and on a scale from one to ten, how haunted would you consider the Queen Mary to be? The Queen Mary is a 10 plus. 8. Would you consider being locked in one of the reported haunted areas with your personal equipment all night long alone? I feel, knowing what I personally know about the Queen Mary, that it would take some emotional and mental preparation and focusing to attempt to allow yourself to be secluded for a night with just your equipment and know that you had to face it yourself no matter what. I could do such a thing but I feel it's not something to be taken lightly. 9. What type of paranormal research have you been able to conduct on the Queen Mary? My primary tools are a digital camera and a digital recorder. I have recently started utilizing my mini-DVD camcorder and a K2 meter. EVP work has been my primary work on the Queen Mary. 10. Any final thoughts you would like to add about the Queen Mary? I love the Queen Mary. I feel I know her very well and I am very comfortable on that ship but I respect her and her permanent passengers. Why they continue to stay there through out eternity only they and God know. I hope I am able to continue to investigate and communicate with those souls for years to come. Gerald Reynolds - Independent Paranormal Investigator

On the RMS Queen Mary by Gerald S. Reynolds
You've heard of bad hair days haven't you? What about a possibly haunted hair day? One year ago this past January in 2009, the last weekend in January to be exact, we witnessed a phenomena that defies explanation. The forward cargo hold of the RMS Queen Mary has often been referred to as the paranormal hot spot of the ship. Pat Wheelock of Beyond Investigation Magazine has often said that while he believes something is going on he's not sure exactly what that is as he has never personally experienced the paranormal. Well, I think Mr. Wheelock did on this night. Now he may disagree because Pat is a dedicated investigator who approaches his work from a skeptical and scientific view, but I have pictures folks. While conducting the RMS Queen Mary's weekly Midnight Ghost Investigation tour Pat was less than two feet away from a guest who said that something was pulling her hair. Now Pat is aware, through his research, that magicians may be able to utilize secrets of their trade to falsify what people are seeing, so, while he was setting next to the guest, he instinctively ran his hand without touching the guest behind them to see if there was what is known as a Magician's wire being used to create the illusion of the hair being lifted up. No such wire was detected. A guest who had one of Pat's thermo couples was checking the temperature of the compartment and reported a drop in temperature. So we have three things working here in regards to evidence - Personal experience of the one guest with the hair being pulled, Pat's observation and the other guest's verification of a change in ambient temperature. A fourth part of confirming what was seen are the photos that I took upon Pat's request.
Notice displayed insert in the upper left corner by the arrows. The hair is lifted and separated. We know that static electricity can cause strands of hair to seemingly float up from one's head but this does not appear to be individual strands but clumps of the pony tail being lifted and separated and even slightly bent.
In this photograph, we now see the hair is together and laying flat against the neck of the guest. There is no separation between clumps of hair as in the previous photo.
The second of the two photos presented here is at the end of the paranormal episode and as we can see the guest's hair is now together (no separation) and is laying flat against the neck. If you notice, Pat's hands are virtually in the same position on his lap or they have not moved which shows these photos were taken within seconds of each other. One person who has viewed these photos suggested that because the guest's head is bent forward to a greater extent in the first photo this would have caused the effect of the hair being lifted and separated. While I respect the opinion of this individual from my own personal viewpoint, the disposition of the pony tail / hair is so drastically different looking from the second photo and because these photos were taken so close together, I am not sure that is possible. Hair being pulled is not an uncommon phenomena in the field of ghost hunting. Many have reported experiencing such in a multitude of places throughout the world. I am not sure what the statistics are but just based on what I have heard personally I would venture a guess (I could be wrong) that more women report having this phenomena happen to them than men do. If you would like to see if perhaps you can experience getting your hair pulled or tapped on the shoulder or a rush of cold air then you may want to schedule a visit to the Queen Mary in Long Beach and join Pat Wheelock on one of his Friday night midnight ghost investigation tours. Go to QueenMary.com and look up "Attractions At Night" and make a reservation if you dare. Happy Hauntings! - Jerry Reynolds -

"Well the very basics of the story is my daughter Heather took the picture of myself while we were waiting for dinner in the Promenade Café. She always checks out the shots that she takes after she snaps them to see how they turned out and she says "what the heck" and I asked her to show me what she was looking at. I was amazed to see the photo. The person wearing what appears to be glasses looks to be female. And the clothing looks similar to what the waiters were wearing that evening but I did not see any female waiters. The camera is a Canon Power shot A570 and the settings my daughter had at the time were portrait and the ISO was high at 1600 which is max on that model camera. I had set the ISO for her the night before because we were on the investigations that night and high ISO allows in more light. Does it prove we captured a ghost in the picture? I don't know. But it certainly is an interesting picture". Gerald Reynolds

"Paranormal or Not" by Gerald Reynolds. Taken at this historical ship. I have not attempted to debunk this photo so it is presented here only as a picture of interest and not as proof of ghosts.

I have not attempted to debunk this photo. I am not sure I would know how to. So, it is presented here only as a photo of interest and not as proof of ghosts. This was taken in a town in Southern California in spring of 2009.

Taken aboard the RMS Queen Mary last Friday evening while exploring the ship - just prior to the weekly midnight ghost investigation. I am presenting this random photo. Its not presented as hard evidence but simply as a picture of interest. I have not attempted to debunk the photo and not sure in fact how I could. What we have here according to what I see is possibly two subjects that are human like in appearance. The subject on the left appears to be more fleshed out then the subject on the right. There are many reasons for things we may see in photos so we must always be skeptical. While I cannot confirm these are spirits, they are interesting to say the least. Jerry

Interesting human like image. Is it a ghost? I don't know and do not claim it to be. It is an interesting capture just the same and it makes you wonder. - Jerry

Peter James or pixelation - As is my practice I was taking random photos on the Queen Mary Friday night. Of course we, or I, cannot claim this is the spirit of the late Peter James, But it sure looks a little bit like him - Doesn't it? - Jerry -

Here are some finds from random photos taken on the Queen Mary, Friday - April 16, 2010. These pics, (along with mouse overs), were shot through the windows of the "Verandha Grill". Are they ghosts? I cannot say, but they sure look human don't they? - Jerry -

Electronic Voice Phenomena - EVP
"Instead of Me" is from the Warner Grand Theater in Sept 2009. There is a huge power grid under the stage next to the dressing rooms of the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro CA You will hear me comment about the high electrical buzzing next to this j-box I am standing near and then you will hear a voice state "Instead of Me?"
"Kyle" July 2009 Friday afternoon to be exact and I was in the Rudder Control Room of the Queen Mary. I asked if anyone wanted to talk to me and I recorded this voice saying "Kyle"
"I was the one" July of Last Summer 2009, Pat and I were investigating the forward cargo hold on the midnight investigation tour. While in the bottom compartment where the pit of the cargo hold is, we kept hearing what sounded like somebody or something walking around in the compartments on the decks above us. I went up and checked all the compartments out and found nobody. When I came back down, I told Pat that I would stay in the compartment on the deck just above the group in case the sounds started again. The sounds did happen again and at the end of the recording clip is an EVP of a woman's clear voice saying "I was the one". - Jerry -

The RMS Queen Mary Rudder Control Room - EVP In recent months, Pat and I have been taking the weekly tour back into the Rudder Control room at the aft-end of the Queen Mary behind the Engine Room. We've had reports of paranormal activity there so we are holding the group EVP session in that compartment each week. I went back there into the Rudder Control room ahead of the tour and set up my video cameras and got ready to conduct an EVP session by myself. This EVP recording was recorded around 2:20am on Saturday, April 24th. I was the only flesh and blood person in the compartment. That's important because what you are going to hear will make you think I was not alone and in a ethereal sense, I wasn't.... Listen very closely after the second time you hear the word "Help", you will hear another voice saying "What the hell is he doing here?" After that you will hear a female voice say "Hi". It is my belief that on this recording we have multiple entities. Keep in mind that when all this is happening I am in a very small area behind the hydraulic rams of the rudder control system in the back of the compartment and that, to my knowledge at the time this takes place, I am physically by myself, or at least I thought I was. In addition to the recording, I am supplying a spectral view picture of the recording. I have marked out where the EVP occur and where my voice is. This is important because you are going to hear a male voice say "Help" two times and it may sound a little similar to my voice but as you will see from the spectral picture, it is different from mine. Each time it occurs you will see the voice pattern is identical in the pattern it produces. You will see that my voice patterns vary and are different each time I speak. - Jerry -

The significance of "Sara" is that she is one of the two prominent little girl spirits people have mentioned. Peter James called her the gate keep of the Vortex in the Changing Room and I think it is significant that I recorded this in the changing room. There was one other couple in the changing room with me at the time but they were at the other end and they were both adults. There were no children or little girls present. Jerry Reynolds
Here are two videos (or one broken up into two) dated June 13, 2009. These were recorded in the Changing Room of the First Class Pool on the RMS Queen Mary. Pat Wheelock was with the group outside in the pool area telling them the stories of the 1st class swimming pool and I was walking through the changing room with my Nikon D90 and my Sony digital recorder. The video was shot with the Nikon D90 which is a digital dslr but it has video capabilities with sound.

I ask "Is there anyone here who wants to speak to me?" and you will hear a little voice at the 23 second mark say "Here I am". I did not hear these voices at the time.
I ask, "Can you tell me your name?" and at the 11 second mark you hear the little voice again say "Sara".

The Queen Mary has a well known legend of a little lost girl who inhabits the 1st Class Pool known as Jackie. Jackie as the story goes may have drowned in what was known as the 2nd class pool where the Royal Theater now exists. Another little girl has been detected in the changing room of the 1st class pool. Her name is Sara. The late medium Peter James said Sara was the gate keeper of the vortex which reportedly exists in the changing room. I myself have recorded a little girls voice in the changing room and she very clearly states her name as Sara. Back on April 24, 2010, early Saturday morning, sometime after midnight I was down in the 1st class pool ahead of the midnight tour group which happens every Friday. They were up in the Paranormal Research Center (PRC) Room with Pat Wheelock and he was reviewing the equipment and their uses. So, I had time to be down in the 1st class pool by myself and do a little paranormal exploring. The photos included here in are of the entrance to the changing room on the starboard side lower level of the 1st class pool room. The first picture 240, the subject appears to be just emerging from the changing room and is starting to look out into the 1st class pool area. The next picture, 241 the subject is looking directly at me and the camera. There is a 3rd picture I have not included here in which it appears the subject is dematerializing and fading away. The original pictures are very dark and these pictures here in have had their contrast and lighting adjusted to bring the images out more clearly. Let me state that no flash was used in the taking of these pictures. I only use settings for high ISO, whitebalance of fluorescent light and D-lighting is set to high as well. I do not use flash so to avoid what is called bounce back or flares. Finally, do I claim that this is a ghost? No, I cannot do that as I could not prove it to be. All I can say is it appears to have human form and appears to be little girl. Regards - Jerry Reynolds
Jackie or Sara? (mouse over)

I visited the QM (Where else?) early on Friday and tested out my new Sony Digital Recorder. Anyways, I tried conjuring up old John Pedder down by Door 13 in the Engine Room. This was about 12:55 PM in the early afternoon. The Engine Room was relatively quiet and empty of people, except for few scattered tourists. Here is the shortened track which contains the EVP plus a spectral picture from Adobe Audition. I must say that this voice is very familiar to me. I know I have recorded this voice many times before in this location by Door 13. - Jerry -

"You Done Yet"

A few weeks ago we posted some pictures of what appears to be a man standing inside the cage / locker area of the back end of the Rudder Control Room on the starboard or right side of the ship. On Friday April 30, 2010 around 12:30 pm I was inside the Rudder Control Room taking random photographs of the same area. In two of the pics a figure appears very clearly to me of what appears to be possibly a soldier sitting in the same area as the previous pictures mentioned here. A different looking subject all together and sitting instead of standing and at a different time of the day. I took many pictures in this time frame and was there for at least 30 minutes and saw and heard nobody back there. I was maybe 15 to 20 feet away from where the subject appears. This is a very dark compartment no matter what time of the day it is. Most tourists walking through the rudder control room would not be able to see anyone sitting back in this area and it does not make sense for the ship to hire an actor dressed as a World War II soldier and have them sit back there. Besides the poor visibility, the plain fact is the Rudder Control Room is not a heavily traveled area. I have been inside this cage and there is only one way out. The door that you see. There is a large enough area for a human to duck down under and squeeze into a cubby hole area above what is known as double bottom tanks but, they could not do so easily and would make noise in the process. I heard nothing the entire time I was standing near there. In that corner where the subject is sitting is a bunch of old ropes and junk and absolutely nothing that could be mistaken for a human form. So, what are we seeing? It's one of three things..... 1. A person dressed in a World War II uniform sitting back there for what ever reason. (I have my doubts about this for the reasons previously stated). 2. A trick of the camera. Effects of light and shadow and environment? Possibly, but there seems to be a good deal of detail to the subject for it to be just environmental influences. 3. An apparition of someone who may have been a soldier during World War II. I or nobody else can prove this so we will never know for sure. From a skeptics standpoint, you would have to say that somebody must have been sitting there. Nobody made themselves known. They said nothing while I was taking the photos. I could not see into the area as it was dark and only my camera with special adjustments was able to see into the area. We will never know for certain so, these pictures are presented as a picture of interest only and not as proof of ghosts. Jerry Reynolds
