Investigation Safety Rules
if simple safety precautions aren't taken. Everyone attending an investigation should use proper
safety techniques, especially in areas of darkness. If simple safety guidelines are adhered to,
the risks of serious injuries and complications to investigators are reduced to a minimum.
Safety should be a priority amongst all investigators as well as any attending client(s).

1. Insure that all necessary equipment is on hand and is in working order. Flashlights,
communication devices, extra batteries as well as proper shoes and attire are essential for
safety.
Always, have a standard first aid kit on hand, stocked and readily available. Each investigator
should be responsible for personal supplies as well as bottled water and/or snacks.

2. Respect yourself, your team mates, spirits and all that pertains to what you are doing. Show
responsibility and maturity at the investigation site. If you would personally feel more
comfortable by performing self protection rites/rituals in accordance to your own personal
beliefs and strengths, then there should be no problem in doing so before the investigation.

3. Coordinate/plan your investigation with team members and/or individual teams. Plan the times
and places for teams to conduct communication events during the investigation time frame.
Sure, things may happen that can change the initial investigation plan but being in contact with
the team leader(s)
and other members will allow you to regroup, discuss the situation for solutions and resume
the investigation. This  will prevent the investigation from getting out of hand.

4. Never investigate alone. Wandering off alone, away from the designated investigation, is not
only dangerous but irresponsible to yourself as well as your team. Having someone with you at
all times to witness any possible paranormal activity encountered will add credibility to your
experience. If an accidental injury were to occur, your partner would be able to help get you
out of the situation, perform first aid, or contact other team members for additional help.
If at any time an investigator feels ill or feels threatened by anything, communicate the
situation to the team leader and accompany that investigator away from the area until those
feelings dissipate.

5. Do not subject your team or its members to areas of danger. Daytime scouting of
investigation areas is common and may prevent a serious night time accident.

6. Always be aware of your surroundings. "I didn't know that was there" is not an acceptable
excuse for an injury happening to any investigator.

7. Alcohol and recreational drugs should never be used prior to, or during, an investigation.
Prescription drugs required to maintain human life is, of course, acceptable but anything that
will impair your abilities as a reputable investigator, (pain medications etc), should be avoided
until the investigation has been concluded. If you are in that much pain, stay home. Being
focused on the task at hand is a requirement for all investigators and impaired judgements or
decisions may subject all Team members and/or client(s) to risks of possible injuries.
Smoking is not permissible at any investigation site, however, times and break areas may be
discussed and established away from the investigation site to where it wouldn't interfere with
the
investigation or any investigators.

8. Research and obey the laws of your state or county regarding public and private properties.
Do not disregard any "No Trespassing" signs. Always ask and receive permission before entering
any
property. Avoid entering cemeteries after dark without prior permission. Cemetery security
guards will get the local police involved thus subjecting your group to unnecessary negative
publicity and possible fines. Do this out of respect for the living and the dead.

9. Refrain from using a Ouija Board as a tool for spirit communication. This has been proven to
be a danger to those not completely knowing the proper procedures.

8. Close out and conclude the investigation by thanking the spirits in the area for any
cooperation they may have provided. Spirit attachments from investigations happen occasionally
and the ability to avoid this may depend on your faith and previous personal protection
rites/rituals prior to the investigation. Sometimes it can be as simple as asking the spirit(s) to
remain there, other times, it can be  blatantly obvious that something has followed you home
from the investigation. Proper procedures to avoid attachments vary, according to religious
beliefs, and can be very personal. Research this subject and find out what would work best for
you.
